Key Actives and What They Do
Ectoin
A naturally occurring amino acid derivative produced by microorganisms that thrive in extreme environmental conditions such as high salinity, UV radiation, and temperature extremes. Ectoin forms a protective molecular shell around skin cells, shielding them from environmental stress, UV-induced damage, and inflammatory triggers. It strengthens the skin barrier, reduces transepidermal water loss, and is clinically recognised for its ability to decrease skin sensitivity and improve overall resilience with continued use. Particularly effective for those with rosacea, eczema-prone, or chronically reactive skin.
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate
Derived from liquorice root, this is one of the most trusted anti-inflammatory and skin-calming ingredients in sensitive skincare. It reduces redness, alleviates itching and irritation, and has been shown to help prevent adverse reactions to other skincare products, making it particularly valuable for those reintroducing actives after a sensitivity episode. It also helps soothe and balance oily and acne-prone skin.
Portulaca Oleracea Extract (Purslane)
A botanically rich extract packed with vitamins A, B, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. It calms inflammatory skin conditions, supports barrier repair, and nourishes fragile skin with essential nutrients. One of the most skin-compatible plant extracts for reactive skin types.
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower Oil)
High in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that is naturally depleted in barrier-damaged or sensitive skin. Sunflower oil replenishes this fatty acid, restoring the barrier’s integrity and improving the skin’s capacity to hold moisture. It is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and deeply nourishing without heaviness.
Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba Oil)
Technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba is structurally similar to the skin’s own sebum. It absorbs readily, balances oil production, soothes inflammation, and deeply moisturises without clogging pores, making it ideal for all skin types including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)
A stable, skin-compatible antioxidant that protects against free radical damage and UV-related skin stress. It supports the skin’s natural repair process and contributes to an overall improvement in skin softness and tone over time.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Aloe Vera)
A deeply hydrating and anti-inflammatory botanical that soothes sunburn, redness, and irritation. It also promotes wound healing and delivers immediate comfort to inflamed or reactive skin.
Zingiber Officinale Root Extract (Ginger)
Beyond its antioxidant properties, ginger root extract stimulates microcirculation in the skin, helping to improve skin tone, promote a natural flush of radiance, and support the regenerative capacity of fatigued or dull skin.
Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract (Chamomile)
A gentle, well-tolerated botanical with proven anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties. Chamomile reduces redness, calms sensitivity, and is one of the most universally compatible botanical ingredients for fragile skin.
Allergen Advisory and Things to Look Out For
• Contains Chamomile Extract. Those with known sensitivities to plants in the Asteraceae family (including ragweed, chrysanthemum, and marigold) should patch test before first use.
• Contains Ginger Root Extract, which may produce a mild warming sensation on very reactive skin. Begin with a small amount and assess skin response before full application.
• Contains Aloe Vera. Those with a known aloe sensitivity should patch test before use.
• While formulated for sensitive skin, individual responses to botanical ingredients vary. A 48-hour patch test on the inner arm is recommended for anyone with a history of severe contact dermatitis or known multiple plant sensitivities.
• Discontinue use if persistent redness, stinging, or worsening of irritation occurs.
